What is the Best Time to Fertilize My Missouri Lawn?

Can I cut my lawn in the winter?
Contact UsYes! You can cut your lawn when it is dormant. Just beware not to cut it when there is frost or frozen turf as it will leaves a nasty brown track where the turf was damaged by the tires. Not sure if it's the right time? Give us a call and we can answer any questions!
Can I spray weeds in winter?
We do not recommend spraying weeds in the winter. The best time is when the weed is actively growing in the spring or when it is pulling in nutrients to go dormant in the fall.
Can you trim hedges in December?
Contact UsAbsolutely! Some shrubs prefer to be trimmed after the first frost. You will want to avoid trimming on below freezing days and do specific research for different types of plant. No matter the time of year, Jarmon can help with all your hedge trimming and pruning needs!
Why is Fescue grass turning yellow in winter?
Get in TouchFescue is a cool season grass yet it goes dormant in cold temps. Dormant grass often turns yellow or brown as the sun bleaches it. Another reason a grass may turn yellow is lack of nitrogen. If you want to keep your grass green as long as possible, consider putting down a high nitrogen fertilizer in late November early December. How late in the year can I cut my grass?
You can cut your grass at any time as long as there is no frost or freezing temps.
How much to charge for mowing a yard?
Contact UsMost companies base their mowing prices off of the amount of time it will take to mow your yard. Often the time to mow a yard can be calculated by the turf square footage. Most companies have a base price. ($50.00 in our case for the first 5000 square feet) and an additional charge for each 1000 square feet above that. If you have excessive trimming or edging, lots of debris or obstacles in your turf, or you don't clean up your pet waste, you will likely be given a higher price.
What is hydroseeding?
Hydroseeding is a very effective albeit costly form of seeding turf. Seed is mixed with water, paper mulch and fertilizer and sprayed directly onto the soil. What is the best lawn preparation for seeding?
The best way to prepare your turf for seeding is to rake the entire area to remove all matted grass and debris. Some folks may seed directly after this step. However, we recommend an aeration or slice seeding treatment to give the seed immediate contact with the soil. And last but definitely not least, fertilize and water your turf.
